about arp

  • Rematriation is an Indigenous women-led practice of restoring people to sacred relationships with their ancestral lands. While repatriation often focuses on returning physical items or land, rematriation emphasizes relational, cultural, and spiritual restoration with the land, acknowledging its sacredness and the leadership of Native women in this process.

  • Intertribal refers to the inclusion of multiple Tribal nations in ARP’s work. The Intertribal Center will be open to Indigenous people from any Tribal community, particularly those whose ancestors were removed from Appalachia. This space fosters collaboration and connection across different Indigenous cultures.

  • ARP is dedicated to restoring Indigenous relationships with the land, supporting cultural revitalization, and fostering ecological care in Appalachia. Through initiatives like the Intertribal Center, voluntary land tax, and land restoration, ARP seeks to heal the region and its communities.

  • ARP’s work includes restoring land through Indigenous knowledge practices, addressing environmental harm, and promoting sustainable care. This includes removing invasive species, planting native flora, and sharing education about ecological stewardship.
